Professional Interests

Mr Hemant Kocher joined the Institute of Cancer in February 2005, as a Senior Clinical Lecturer, having been awarded a National Clinician Scientist Fellowship by the National Institute of Health Research (UK). He completed his MD at King's College London under the supervision of Prof. Bruce M Hendry and Prof. Irving S Benjamin in 2003 and completed his specialist clinical training in hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery under Prof. Irving S Benjamin and Prof. Nigel Heaton in 2005. His current research interests include pancreatic cancer progression with special reference to the stromal reaction in pancreatic cancer. Current research directions include

  • Investigating the role of Ezrin, RhoC and ROCK in pancreatic cancer progression, invasion and metastasis
  • Investigating the role of pancreatic stellate cells.
  • Developing organotypic pancreatic cancer models.

His clinical interests include clinical trials and epidemiology in patients with hepato-biliary-pancreatic disorders, surgical development and his clinical practice is at the Barts and the London HPB Centre at the Royal London Hospital.

Personal awards/fellowship include the Young Fellow Award of the Royal Society of Medicine (2005) and Cutler's Surgical Fellowship (2007).
